There is no scheduling, no invoicing, no CRM and no client portal. There is no cloud sync — that is what we are building next and it lands free for anyone subscribed when it ships, but do not buy today on the strength of it. There is no AI narrative generation; the library is written and reviewed by an inspector instead, which trades novelty for consistency and defensibility.
Plumbline launched in 2026. Spectora has years of production use and thousands of inspectors behind it, which means their edge cases were found by somebody other than you. That is a real difference and no comparison table changes it.

How much does it cost?
$499 once for a perpetual licence — unlimited inspections, unlimited devices, your own branding. There is an optional $190 a year that keeps the defect library current as codes change, adds new jurisdiction packs and extra seats. It is genuinely optional; cancel it and the software keeps working exactly as it did.
Is the trial limited?
No. The trial is the entire application — no clock, no card, no locked features. Run a complete inspection and read every page of the report before you spend anything. Reports carry a band marking them a trial copy until you activate a licence, and that is the only difference.
What happens to my reports if you disappear?
Nothing. Every report is a self-contained file already on your device and your client's. There is no portal to shut down and no proprietary format to be locked out of. This is the first question anyone should ask a software vendor and most of the industry cannot answer it well.
Does the licence phone home?
No. Your key is a signed statement your device verifies by itself using public-key cryptography. There is no licence server to call, which is why activation works in a crawlspace and why nothing can switch you off mid-inspection.
Does it do scheduling, invoicing or a CRM?
No, and it is not trying to. If you need scheduling, agreements, payments and a client portal in one place, Spectora does that well and Plumbline does not do it at all. This writes reports, offline, and hands you a file you own.
My state mandates its own Standards of Practice.
Set them in the settings — the name and the link both print on the report. The jurisdiction packs cover authorities, codes and thresholds; the Standards reference is yours to point wherever your regulator requires.
Can I change the defect wording?
Every finding is editable before it goes in the report and you can write your own. Editing the underlying library ships in a coming release.
